Jane Holden, from South Leicestershire, was one of the runners who had planned to take part. She was running to raise awareness and funds for the Andrew Grene Foundation (AGF), a charity that aims to transform lives in Haiti. Undeterred by the cancellation, she has organised her own event in its place, naming it the Holden Haiti Half.Holden said: “The run fell on my birthday weekend and I had already planned a few meetings in Haiti on behalf of the AGF, so the timing of the run felt like fate.“I was asking friends and family to donate what they would have spent on birthday cards or chocolate on a small donation instead. I had planned for the fundraising money I raised to go towards the AGF education project, specifically a new sports court, with my target being £1,000.”How to organise a safe run in HaitiHolden says that she was “devastated” to hear that the official run had been cancelled.“Instead of accepting it, I was determined to do it even more. I wasn’t going to give up on Haiti.”She contacted Reconnaissance Group, the security company used by the AGF, and explained that she wanted to run a half marathon on her own in Haiti. Together they negotiated a plan to make her vision of a half marathon in Haiti a reality. She explained: “With the security team’s support, we have organised a safe route, staying out of areas that have been raised with security concerns in the city. There will also be a body guard closely escorting me in a car for added security.”The run will now take place on 25 February in Port au Prince.Holden acknowledged that she could have just run the half marathon in her hotel on a treadmill. “But it wouldn’t have been the right thing to do. “I was set on running a half marathon in Haiti, for Haiti and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”She added that she hopes the event can continue. “If it’s successful,” she said, “I hope to organise a public event where runners can join me next year.”With corporate support from P3 Group, she is fundraising for the Andrew Grene Foundation via JustGiving. Cape Town celebrates Mandela’s life
11 December 2013Cape Town is gearing up for its tribute to Nelson Mandela at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening. The commemorative event – Nelson Mandela: A Life Celebrated – will serve as Cape Town’s memorial service to honour the life of Mandela, the city said in a statement on Tuesday. The city has allocated R72-million for its week-long programme of events honouring Mandela, the former state president who died at his Johannesburg home last Thursday. The city’s events are in line with the national week of mourning. On Tuesday night, a remembrance evening was held at OR Tambo community hall in Khayelitsha. An address by poet Don Mattera, stirring performances by choirs including the Masi Choir from Masiphumelele township, as well as inter-faith prayers by community and religious leaders, were part of the evening’s events.Cape Town also hosted a special joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament – the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces – on Monday to honour and commemorate Mandela. Some of South Africa’s favourite artists, including Johnny Clegg, Freshlyground and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, have been asked to perform at Wednesday’s tribute event.Former Springbok rugby player Francois Pienaar who captained the team that won the Rugby World Cup in 1995, Cape Town Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille, and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille will share their memories and impressions of Mandela, the city said.Shado Twala will be the MC for the evening. There will also be performances by the Bala Brothers, Allou April, and Carla Diamond as well as various choirs.Transport and safety plans used during the 2010 World Cup have been initiated to ensure things run smoothly. Free public transport will be available for the memorial and funeral services on Wednesday and Sunday. In an effort to maintain order and safety, the city instituted a free coupon system. By Tuesday morning, all 64 000 coupons had been issued, which was “a wonderful display of Madiba’s great impact on everyone’s lives”, the city said.Coupon-holders were asked to give away the coupons that they would not be using as “this is the best way of honouring Madiba: ensuring that as many people as possible can attend the event”.Other events planned by the city include a remembrance evening in Atlantis on Thursday; a night vigial on the Grand Parade on the eve of Mandela’s funeral; and the screening of the national funeral on the Grand Parade on Sunday.Robben Island, the Drakenstein Correctional Centre, Pollsmoor, Cape Town City Hall and the Grand Parade have been identified as key areas where people are likely to congregate to pay their respects. The city has also assured its residents that there will also be “free and convenient” access to venues and related events close to their homes.Public viewing areas where communities may view the remembrance and funeral services are: the Grand Parade, Atlantis, Durbanville, Khayelitsha, Swartklip, Vygieskraal, Muizenberg.Visit the City of Cape Town’s website for more information: www.capetown.gov.zaWatch as Mandela surprises Johnny Clegg during his performance of Asimbonanga, which he performed in Frankfurt in 1999SAinfo reporter and City of Cape Town
YouTube Premium Channel SourceFed Racks Up 500,000 Subscribers
Tags:#Internet TV#web SourceFed, a.k.a. the “bacon of the news” on YouTube, emerged as the first successful channel among Google’s premium content offering yesterday, when the show hit 500,000 subscribers with 158 million views to date.Google invested roughly $400 million in nearly 100 shows last January as part of YouTube’s Original Channel Initiative, a bid to rival TV networks as a digital content creator. The productions feature stars like Amy Poehler, Chris Hardwick, Madonna, Deepak Chopra, Kevin Smith, Tony Hawk, and the occasional YouTube celeb. Advertisers are paying between $5 and $10 million for spots in the shows.Despite the star power, so far, the top-performing shows have been created by people who initially built their audience on YouTube. This shouldn’t come as a surprise: These young Web celebs understand the online video space, and some of them have grown up there. It is only fitting, then, that the first premium content channel to hit a major milestone of success would be one created by a YouTube mega-personality.SourceFed is just that: Brainchild of six-year YouTube veteran Philip Defranco, the channel has seen phenomenal growth since day one, collecting 5.5 million views within a week of launch.James Haffner, SourceFed’s producer, believes the channel’s success lies in a couple of factors: First, the channel provides “easily consumable” content that’s also accessible on mobile devices (accounting for 50% of views). “We get to have fun every day, but at the same time, we inform people,” Haffner said. And because each video is short, people can pick and choose among segments. Second, the way the four SourceFed show hosts interact with fans is key, because it fosters a sense of online community. “Our viewers treat us like we’re their best friends,” Haffner explained.A video celebrating SourceFed’s accomplishment emphasized this relationship with viewers, which features fan-submitted videos of viewers describing why they love SourceFed. Reasons mentioned range from SourceFed’s “non-partisan” and “non-boring” news to “you guys are like a family, and we appreciate that.” Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market fruzsina eordogh A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Editors note: an earlier version of this post had an incorrect number in the title.
Wilder wants to get rid of Stiverne, then unify heavyweights

He is stepping in for Luis Ortiz, who was disqualified by the sanctioning body when he had a positive drug test.“I had nothing last fight. But now I’m a very dangerous man. Everyone here knows what time it is. Deontay Wilder has been trying to duck me. He’s been giving a lot of excuses about my career. He should be happy if I’ve been inactive. He should be jumping in the air. Everyone knows that means he’s scared.”Rather than scared, Wilder sounds weary. He notes that the entire promotion of this fight has been on his shoulders. He’s crisscrossed the country drumming up interest, and he’s ready to finish his business for 2017 and get on with unification next year. For that, Wilder adds, he can’t wait.“I’ve promised I will unify the heavyweight titles and I will,” he says. “Those others, (Anthony) Joshua, have other plans. I don’t think he has the motivation to unify. If that is his plan, then sign the deal. That’s all it takes to make it happen. Next fight, we’ll make it happen. But he doesn’t want to fight me, period.”ADVERTISEMENT Japan ex-PM Nakasone who boosted ties with US dies at 101 Wilder is 38-0 with 37 knockouts. The only opponent who went the distance with him is Stiverne, whom Wilder outpointed for the belt in 2015. Since, Wilder has stopped five others in defense of the title, but the fact that Stiverne was standing at the end of their previous bout has the champ “steamed.”Add that Stiverne has claimed many times he was not at peak health for that fight, and Wilder shakes his head in disgust.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSWATCH: Drones light up sky in final leg of SEA Games torch runSPORTSSEA Games: Philippines picks up 1st win in men’s water poloSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutout“Stiverne was the only man to survive the ‘Alabama Slammer’ and avoid a knockout,” the 32-year-old native of Tuscaloosa says. “When I knock him out, then nobody will be able to say they made it through against me. MOST READ England’s Joshua just stopped journeyman Carlos Takam in 10 not particularly impressive rounds to keep his WBA and IBF belts. The other heavyweight champ, Joseph Parker of New Zealand, owns the WBO crown. Wilder says boxing fans are confused about so many champions, and he is doing a service to the sport by unifying.Should Wilder handle Stiverne in the Showtime main event Saturday night, he won’t be satisfied if it isn’t by knockout. He wants to put on a show, particularly with a UFC card taking place in New York the same night.“This will be an electrifying fight,” Wilder says. “That belt isn’t going anywhere. I will unify the division. I will be the undefeated, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”The undercard features one of the area’s favorites, Shawn Porter, who faces Adrian Granados in a welterweight matchup. Porter probably has the best resume of anyone on the card, and previous fights at Barclays against Keith Thurman, Devon Alexander and Andre Berto make the former world champ a solid draw. What most impresses Porter (27-2-1, 17 knockouts) about Granados (18-5-2)? Well, at the final news conference for the bouts, the always-dapper Porter complimented Granados on his fine clothing.“The respect that Granados and I have for each other, that’s what boxing is all about,” Porter says. “It’s about getting in the ring and competing. We wanted someone that was going to come here and fight me. We didn’t want someone who was going to run or lay down. We want to close the year out in fantastic form, and the best way to do that is by facing Granados.” CPP denies ‘Ka Diego’ arrest caused ‘mass panic’ among S. Lisa Ann Recounts How She Met Notre Dame WR Justin Brent, “I Love My Little 19 Year Old”
SOUTH BEND, IN – SEPTEMBER 25: A general view of the opening kick-off between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Stanford Cardinal at Notre Dame Stadium on September 25, 2010 in South Bend, Indiana. Stanford defeated Notre Dame 37-14. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)Last October, Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Justin Brent went to a New York Knicks game with Lisa Ann. The now-retired adult film star posted a couple pictures of the pair on Instagram and, later that evening, a selfie of them in bed together. This might have gotten Brent in trouble with Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly, who said the freshman was in his “doghouse” and “gets distracted easily” near the conclusion of the 2014 season. We haven’t seen any photos of Brent and Ann together since the Knicks game. It’s unclear if they still keep in touch. In an interview with GQ‘s Myles Brown, Ann recounted how she met the Notre Dame wide receiver. You were with Justin Brent recently…. I love my little 19 year old. How’d that start?I met him at a restaurant. We exchanged numbers. He was going to be on break from school and I was like, “Hey, why don’t you come to the city and we’ll go to a Knicks game.”I like these new friendships in a weird mentor kinda way. I don’t have children. Because I did porn, guys are just so honest with me, asking me sexual questions they might not want to ask their friends. Those answers came from a lengthy interview with GQ in which Ann describes her relationships with athletes. It’s a fascinating read. [GQ]
