Redlands dominates Fontana
REDLANDS – After being dealt two Citrus Belt League losses to Redlands East Valley and Colton, Redlands High School was bound to make someone pay. That someone was Fontana High School, which had no answer for the Terriers’ rushing attack in a 62-0 stomping on Friday night at Ted Runner Stadium. Led by senior running backs Antwane Almendarez and Aaron Beck, the Terriers piled up 374 yards on the ground and made it a Homecoming Night to remember. “We needed this,” Redlands coach Jim Walker said. “We needed to get back on track.” AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREWalnut’s Malik Khouzam voted Southern California Boys Athlete of the Week After forcing the Steelers to punt on their first drive, the Terriers (3-4, 2-2) needed only four plays to get on the board. Almendarez scored on a 6-yard run, the first of his four on the night. “We’ve been going through some hard times,” said Almendarez, whose other touchdowns came on runs of 11, 58 and 24 yards. “We want to make the playoffs so we have to win.” Beck added 140 yards and a TD for the Terriers, who simply ran all over the Steelers. “They didn’t do anything that they don’t normally do,” Fontana coach Tim Pike said. “Their backs ran hard and we couldn’t tackle.” Down 14-0 halfway in the first quarter, the Steelers (0-7, 0-4) moved the ball all the way to the Redlands’ 16 on quarterback Malcolm McFarland’s 59-yard connection to LaRonzo Coleman. But the Steelers were unable to put any points on the board as Joe White missed a 31-yard field goal. It was downhill from then. Seven of Redlands’ nine TDs came on the ground. Junior quarterback Coy Glass connected with Anthony Laws on a 24-yard score and a blocked punt that was recovered by Yacinthe Dorsainvil made up the other TDs. “Our season is really coming down to that game,” Walker said. “It’s a big game for us. Whoever wins that game is in the driver seat for probably a playoff spot.” 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
