Education dept clears confusion regarding closure of schools
Kolkata: The state Education department on Friday issued a fresh notification declaring that all government, government-sponsored and non-government-aided schools in the state will remain closed on May 3 and May 4, due to the prediction of severe cyclonic storm Fani.The notification states that all these schools will also remain closed from May 6 to May 20 until commencement of summer vacation, due to the prevailing heat wave. It further states that schools will remain closed till June 30 due to anticipated extreme weather conditions. Also Read – Rs 13,000 crore investment to provide 2 lakh jobs: MamataThe notification issued on Thursday declaring that classes will remain suspended in all government, government-sponsored and non-government-aided schools from primary to higher secondary level from May 3 to June 30 due to Fani and heat wave, had created some confusion among a section of teachers and guardians. State Education minister Partha Chatterjee said: “There was some confusion regarding Thursday’s notification. Hence, we have issued a new one.” He also posted the new notification on his Facebook page. The final examination of engineering and some practical examinations of science were scheduled to be held in these two days. A notice by the Controller of Examinations was put up on the varsity’s website, declaring postponement of the examinations till further notification. Regular classes were held at Calcutta University and Rabindra Bharati University, even though student attendance was feeble. CU has no examinations scheduled before May 23, when the results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced.
