Chelsea boss Sarri says he wants Cesc to stayby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says he wants Cesc Fabregas to sign a new deal.Senior Chelsea stars Fabregas, David Luiz and Gary Cahill are all on contracts that expire next summer, but Sarri intends to “respect” the Blues’ policy of only offering one-year extensions to players aged 30 and older.”In this position we have only two players, Jorginho and Fabregas, so for me it would be really a problem without Cesc,” said Sarri.”I want him to stay, I don’t know the final decision of Cesc and the club of course.”But for me it’s very important and if Cesc will go I think that we need to buy another player, and it’s not easy because, technically, Cesc is a very important player.”And I think that in the market it’s very difficult to find a player with his characteristics.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say
Man Utd willing to allow Valencia to join Inter Milanby Paul Vegas9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United are ready to allow captain Antonio Valencia to run down his contract this season. The Mirror says United have no intention of triggering a 12-month extension option in Valencia’s current deal, which will expire this summer. With this in mind, Valencia’s representatives have begun negotiating a move to Inter Milan for the Ecuadorian right-back, who has played just eight times this season.Inter reportedly want to sign the 33-year-old during the January transfer window but United don’t want to weaken Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad without bringing in a replacement.Valencia has played just once under Solskjaer having fallen out of favour under the Norwegian’s predecessor, Jose Mourinho. SOUTH BEND, IN – SEPTEMBER 25: A general view of the opening kick-off between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Stanford Cardinal at Notre Dame Stadium on September 25, 2010 in South Bend, Indiana. Stanford defeated Notre Dame 37-14. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)Last October, Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Justin Brent went to a New York Knicks game with Lisa Ann. The now-retired adult film star posted a couple pictures of the pair on Instagram and, later that evening, a selfie of them in bed together. This might have gotten Brent in trouble with Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly, who said the freshman was in his “doghouse” and “gets distracted easily” near the conclusion of the 2014 season. We haven’t seen any photos of Brent and Ann together since the Knicks game. It’s unclear if they still keep in touch. In an interview with GQ‘s Myles Brown, Ann recounted how she met the Notre Dame wide receiver. You were with Justin Brent recently…. I love my little 19 year old. How’d that start?I met him at a restaurant. We exchanged numbers. He was going to be on break from school and I was like, “Hey, why don’t you come to the city and we’ll go to a Knicks game.”I like these new friendships in a weird mentor kinda way. I don’t have children. Because I did porn, guys are just so honest with me, asking me sexual questions they might not want to ask their friends. Those answers came from a lengthy interview with GQ in which Ann describes her relationships with athletes. It’s a fascinating read. [GQ]
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri believes Giorgio Chiellini’s injury is nothing serious after the defender was forced to be withdrawn against Atalanta on Wednesday.Chiellini came off after 25 minutes of Juve’s shock defeat in the Coppa Italia with the score then tied at 0-0.The centre-back was replaced by Joao Cancelo, who slotted in at right-back, while Mattia De Sciglio was forced to play alongside Daniele Rugani in the heart of defence. This make-shift back four endured a tough night against Atalanta and ended up on the long side of a 3-0 scoreline, thanks to Timothy Castagne’s first-half strike and Duvan Zapata’s double. The evening was only compounded by Chiellini’s injury, with many suspecting a serious calf strain. However, following the match Allegri moved to calm those fears, adding Martin Caceres would be available if the 34-year-old was sidelined.”Let’s see,” he told JTV.”He has a discomfort on the outer calf. It should not be anything to worry about, otherwise there will be Caceres.”The Uruguayan defender rejoined Juventus this month on loan from Serie A rivals Lazio, for what will be his third spell at the club,His introduction could prove to be hugely significant with Juventus so short on defensive options. Both Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barazagli are ruled out through injury, meaning Caceres and Rugani are the squad’s only fit centre-backs.Given the lack of options available to Allegri, he has linked with a deadline-day move for Parma defender Bruno Alves. It remains to be seen whether Chiellini will be available for Juve’s next clash, when they host Alves’ Parma in Serie A on Saturday. The reigning Italian champions will want to bounce back quickly from Wednesday’s humiliation. The defeat was the first time that Juventus have lost a Coppa Italia tie for five season and the first time they have been knocked-out before the quarter-final stage since 2006/07, when the club were in Serie B.Worrying, the Bianconeri’s league form has also taken something of a hit in recent weeks and they only won by the narrowest of margins last time against Lazio, when two goals in the last 20 minutes ensured Juve ran out as 2-1 winners.
Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham believes there ‘is no better guy to play under’ than Frank Lampard amidst rumours that the Derby County boss is set to become the new Blues manager. The club’s all-time top-scorer has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to fill the vacancy left by Maurizio Sarri, who departed last week to join Serie A champions Juventus.Lampard took Derby to the Championship play-off final last season before losing in the final to Abraham’s loan club Aston Villa, and the striker has welcomed his potential return. Someone you have grown up watching, been at Chelsea forever.“He knows about me as well. I played against his team in the play-off final.”The 21-year-old, who scored 26 goals for the Villans in the Championship last season, has yet to find a way through to Chelsea’s first-team and has made just three first-team appearances. The striker has been linked with a return to Villa Park as they build their squad for their first season back in the Premier League, but he has his sights set on making a name for himself in a Blues shirt.Abraham knows that for himself and the rest of the club’s young players, there may not be a plethora of opportunities coming their way if the club’s transfer ban is lifted, so they need to take their chance when it arrives.“This year is the most important year for us, It is now or never. There will never be a better time to play the youngsters,” he added.“Of course the transfer ban is probably not what the club wanted, but I am excited and I am sure the rest of the players are.“There is a great chance for us so we must get our heads down at training and go for it at Chelsea.“I have already been talking to the club about pre-season. I’m going to have a couple of weeks and then come back hitting the ground running.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.
Free agent right-back Dani Alves is close to a move to Sao Paulo as the veteran defender will return to Brazil to continue his career. The Brazil international is without a club after his release by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season. The 36-year-old took to Instagram last week in a tongue-in-cheek post, asking where he should send his CV as he looked for a new team. Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? The answer seems to have come from his homeland with Sao Paulo prepared to offer him a three-year deal, sources tell Goal, something no European club was willing to do.The player, currently on holiday in the country is expected in the city in the next few days to make the move official as he has already reached a verbal agreement with the club.Sao Paulo initially thought the player’s wage demands would be too high, describing the chances of signing him as “almost unviable,” but the lure of a long-term contract at the club he supported as a youngster has tempted Alves.Alves started his career at Bahia, the only club more successful in Brazil than Sao Paulo, before moving to Sevilla in Spain in 2002 when he was 19.Six years at Sevilla followed, before he made the move to Barcelona in 2008.He spent eight years with the Blaugrana, making 247 appearances in Catalonia and winning 22 trophies while at the club. The honours at Barca are part of the 40 Alves has won throughout his career, making him the most decorated player in history. He spent a season at Juventus after leaving Spain. The Turin giants were one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in the player, who captained Brazil to Copa America glory this summer, picking up the Player of the Tournament award in the process.Inter were another club supposedly in talks with Alves, but no club was willing to offer him anything beyond a one-year deal.English teams were also reportedly interested in the right-back, and he wanted to play in the Premier League. He came close to rejoining Pep Guardiola, a manger of his at Barcelona, at Manchester City before moving to PSG two seasons ago.He helped the Paris club to two consecutive Ligue 1 titles before they released him, paving the way for a return to his home country.
Pedro Neto scored on his debut as Wolves brushed Pyunik aside 4-0 at Molineux to secure an 8-0 aggregate victory and a place in the Europa League play-off round.Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were already virtually guaranteed of progression but ensured they moved two games away from the group stage in style, although Serie A side Torino are next up in the competition.Neto’s opening goal for the club came early in the second half and he was quickly involved again, setting up Morgan Gibbs-White. Ruben Vinagre added Wolves’ third and they completed the scoring in stunning fashion thanks to an acrobatic finish from Diogo Jota.Wolves had established a dominant position in the tie thanks to last week’s 4-0 win at the Republican Stadium, where Raul Jimenez scored twice.Having handed debuts to Jesus Vallejo and Neto in the return fixture, they almost took an early lead when the latter fired wide from outside the box, while Patrick Cutrone wasted two chances before half-time.Andrija Dragojevic stayed big to deny Gibbs-White after the restart but Neto struck the opener from close range in the 54th minute, tucking in a Cutrone cross.Cutrone > Neto > pic.twitter.com/bEKqmx9n25— Wolves (@Wolves) August 15, 2019Confidence was then flowing for the 19-year-old as he darted into space on the left and put the ball on a plate for the arriving Gibbs-White to net his first senior goal.Pyunik were cut open on the right flank again in the 64th minute when Adama Traore set up Vinagre for his second Europa League strike of the season. The pick of the goals was still to come with three minutes left, however, a fine team move seeing Wolves find Jimenez in space and his scooped pass over the Pyunik defence was met by Jota’s wonderful overhead kick.Torino will likely provide a far sterner test, but Wolves continue to enjoy their first taste of European football since the 1980-81 campaign.

AUSTIN, TX – SEPTEMBER 6: A general view of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium before the BYU Cougars play the Texas Longhorns on September 6, 2014 in Austin, Texas. (Photo by Chris Covatta/Getty Images)Texas (6-2) hosts West Virginia (6-1) this weekend in what will likely be an elimination game from the Big 12 title, let alone the College Football Playoffs. With no unbeaten teams remaining in the Big 12 Conference, it is increasingly unlikely that any team will represent the conference in the College Football Playoffs. The Longhorns’ two losses have likely ended their playoff hopes, but a win would guarantee the team finishes with a winning record in the regular season for the first time since 2013.West Virginia have yet to win a Big 12 title, and would be all but eliminated from the game with a loss. But a Mountaineers’ win would show that the team has what it takes to win the title as they get to the hardest stretch of their schedule.ESPN’s computer model has released its prediction for the game.ESPN’s computer model believes that this game is basically a toss up, but has Texas winning. The computer model gives the Longhorns a 50.9 percent chance to win this Saturday’s game. The two teams are nearly equal historically, with Texas owning a 4-3 edge and having won last year’s matchup.Whoever wins this game will likely be able to coast to a spot in the Big 12 championship game – which at this point would probably feature Oklahoma. The game will be played at 3:30 p.m. EST on FOX.

Press Trust of India Mount MaunganuiJanuary 27, 2019UPDATED: January 27, 2019 18:35 IST Hardik Pandya is back in the ODI squad after BCCI lifted the provisional suspension (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSIndia are eyeing an unassailable series lead with victory in third ODI at Bay Oval on MondayHardik Pandya has joined the India squad after his suspension was lifted pending the appointment of ombudsmanVirat Kohli has been rested for the last two ODIs and the subsequent T20I series in New ZealandA well-deserved break on the cards, India captain Virat Kohli will be aiming to seal the ongoing five-match series when his team squares off against a confused New Zealand in the third ODI in Mount Maunganui on Monday. The Indian captain has been given a break as part of BCCI’s workload management programme and he would ensure that he finishes his assignment Down Under on a high after the maiden Test and ODI victories in Australia. An unassailable 3-0 lead would be a fitting revenge to India’s abject 0-4 humiliation during the 2014 limited-overs series. One of the primary focus of Monday’s encounter could be inclusion of Indian cricket’s latest enfant terrible Hardik Pandya, who is coming back from provisional suspension for his loose talk on a TV chat show.Pandya’s presence lends solidity and balance to the side and the skipper has time and again admitted it. The Baroda all rounder’s replacement Vijay Shankar is a decent cricketer but is yet to possess the X factor that Pandya has. That Shankar was given only two overs in the second ODI is an example that he is still not ready to shoulder extra responsibility.Pandya is a few clicks quicker than Shankar whose bowling in the three ODIs that he has played has not been penetrative.Pandya can also bat at No.6 if situation arises and his busy approach in batting can also get the scoreboard ticking in middle overs as the skipper wants.Otherwise Indian team doesn’t require much tinkering.advertisementNew Zealand, on the other hand, have looked clueless against India’s wrist-spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who accounted for 12 of the 20 wickets in the last two ODIs.Kuldeep has looked the most menacing as he claimed two four-wicket hauls in the first two ODIs, while Chahal returned with two wickets on both the matches.Seamers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami also have done their job well, getting crucial breakthroughs for the team.India’s batting too have complemented the bowlers, looking rock solid in both the games with Shikhar Dhawan’s return to form lending the team the much-needed support at the top.If he had scored an unbeaten 75 in the first ODI, he cracked a 67-ball 66 in the second game.Vice captain Rohit Sharma, who had flopped in the first ODI, too entertained the spectators with a strokeful 87 en route his 14th century stand with opening partner Dhawan.Skipper Kohli also looked in good nick in both the matches, while Ambati Rayudu seemed to have found his mojo back with a 49-ball 47 on Saturday. An ageless Mahendra Singh Dhoni too continued his rampaging run with yet another unbeaten 33-ball 48 to take India across the 300-run mark, while Kedar Jadhav has also grabbed the role of a finisher with both hands. While the batting looked in place, there is a slight concern about the visitors fifth bowler’s slot where Pandya might fit in.India are yet to finalise their middle-order ahead of the World Cup.Once Kohli takes a break following the third ODI, Dinesh Karthik might get a place to boost the middle-order in the skipper’s absence. The team management might also think of handing an India debut to the very talented Shubman Gill. For Black Caps, captain Kane Williamson, who had top-scored in the first ODI, looked good during his short stay in the second ODI, while all-rounder Doug Bracewell tried to take the game to the wires with a 46-ball 57 but none of the other batters could convert their starts.”There’s two games in a row now where we’ve not had control at any stage, but we need to take small steps,” Williamson said.”Some of the dismissals were a result of us going too hard maybe. If you have wickets in hand, you never know. But we didn’t have wickets in hand. Those are the lessons that we need to take ahead.”SquadsIndia: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar, Shubman Gill, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya.New Zealand: Kane Williamson (captain), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Colin de Grandhomme, Trent Boult, Henry Nicholls, Doug Bracewell, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Colin Munro, Ish Sodhi, Micthell Santner, Tim Southee. Also Read | New Zealand police warn public to beware of Virat Kohli’s Indian team in funny postAlso Read | I will close my eyes and bowl wherever MS Dhoni wants me to: Kedar JadhavadvertisementFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. In fact, I had led CSK to a Super Over against Kings XI long, long time ago in 2010,” Ashwin said.He added: “But look we are all professional cricketers. Today, as of now where we stand is very important. We should look at this from the perspective of how the IPL stands. It’s very important for us to continue what we’ve been doing. Our emphasis, more than anything else, is about enjoying ourselves. Not putting too much pressure on ourselves.advertisement”Yes, it’s a very important game for me. Kings XI Punjab are on top of the Indian Premier League table with three wins from four matches.Kings XI made a stunning comeback in their 14-run win over Delhi Capitals on April 1 as they picked up the Capitals’ last seven wickets while conceding just eight runs in their defence of a 166-run total.Heaping praise on the likes of Sam Curran and Mohammed Shami, Ashwin added: “I look, I mean, in this format you definitely need a bit of luck. But it’s very easy to throw in the towel when the game gets close but our bowling unit stuck it out. The credit needs to be given to our bowling unit.”That’s one of the reasons why we went hard behind Mohammed Shami. We knew Sam Curran is a combination player for us, we want hard despite people saying a lot of things. We wanted to create a conducive environment where youth and experience together creates a joyful atmosphere.”Also Read | R Ashwin opens up on Mankading row: People will keep giving opinionsAlso Read | James Anderson criticising Mandaking today, he might end up doing it tomorrow: R AshwinAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. He has put the controversy behind and is very much in the reckoning of a World Cup spot.As a co-owner and someone who is used to handling fame and money after spending decades in Hindi film industry, Zinta said she does share her experiences with the youngsters in the KXIP squad.”Yes, we do have those conversations, we have been there and done that. I am really keeping my fingers crossed this time.”KXIP have begun well, winning three out of their four-game so far in the competition. Also Read | R Ashwin on return to Chepauk: Playing in front of Chennai crowd always specialAlso Read | James Anderson criticising Mandaking today, he might end up doing it tomorrow: R AshwinAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Smith was Australia captain during the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town.Incidentally, David Warner, who along with Smith was banned for a year after admitting to tampering with the ball, was batting at the other end. The moment Smith faced up to Hamid Hassan, the crowd booed the former Australian captain.Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for 12 months while Cameron Bancroft was banished for 9 months in one of the biggest scandals in modern-day cricket. Both Warner and Smith were welcomed warmly in India during the Indian Premier League. Warner in fact went on to score 692 runs from 12 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad and he won the Orange Cap.Steve Smith replaced Ajinkya Rahane as captain of Rajasthan Royals midway into the 2019 IPL..But it has been a different story in England so far.According to an Australian journalist, David Warner was booed by a certain section at the ground – later, he was seen signing autographs. They are going to have to have thick skin. We have talked about earning respect. I think it is really important that people show some respect as well. Because they are humans, they are really good cricketers. They made a mistake. They have paid the price for it. Big price actually. I feel for them as people more than anything else, Langer had told ESPNcricinfo. Also Read | World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli hurts his thumb during training sessionAlso Watch:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. India lost their batting lynchpins Rohit Sharma (1), KL Rahul (1), Virat Kohli (1) cheaply inside the first 4 overs. Matt Henry and Trent Boult were running riot as the Manchester crowd, filled with a sea of blue, went quiet.India prefered to send Dinesh Karthik into bat ahead of MS Dhoni as the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batsman, batting for only for the 2nd time in World Cup 2019, walked in at 5. Karthik struggled to get going and was eventually dismissed for 6 from 25 balls after a stunning catch from James Neesham.Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson were testing the Indian batsman and Hardik Pandya walked in after Dinesh Karthik’s dismissal, helping raise quite a few eyebrows.Sourav Ganguly, who was on-air for Star Sports, said it was “very hard to understand” why MS Dhoni was not sent earlier to bat.”It’s very hard to understand. No MS Dhoni yet,” Sourav Ganugly said.He added: “There you see MS Dhoni. You have got 10-and-half thousand runs. Average 50 and he is not in yet when India is under pressure. That’s not acceptable. I know he is a good finisher but this is long way from finished. India needed all his experience, all his ability. And at any stage, you needed his batting experience, it’s this one. When you’re 3 down or 4 down for 25, you needed your most experienced batsman.”advertisementEarlier in the day, Mark Nicholas had asked Sourav Ganguly if head coach Ravi Shastri would be “empowered to change the batting order”, Ganguly replied in the affirmative.Mark Nicholas: How would the structure work? Ravi Shastri would be empowered to change the batting order, would he?Sourav Ganguly: Yeah, you expect that. Don’t you? When you’re captain is out on the field, you expect your vice-captain, you expect your coach. But you have got to be proactive. There’s Ravi Shastri on your screen. He is not panicking. He is not someone who is panicking very very quickly. But maybe when you’re captain is in, you need to take that call. You need to be ahead of the game.Rishabh Pant was looking busy in the middle as the young wicketkeeper-batsman was seemingly playing with a lot of freedom despite the amount of pressure on the middle-order. India are well behind the DLS score. For a result to be produced in the semi-final, India should have completed at least 20 overs of their chase. Also Read | India vs New Zealand, World Cup 2019 semi-final: What happens if play is called off after 20 oversAlso Read | MS Dhoni advising Yuzvendra Chahal and fielders during World Cup semi-final is goldAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. The tournament was initially inaugurated by former India skipper and current Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni.advertisementOn the National Dope Testing Laboratory, Rai did not make any comment as it was banned by the World Anti Doping Agency last month.”No comments on the dope test of cricketers as the NDTL is banned by the WADA,” Rai said.Earlier, after the suspension of NDTL by WADA, the BCCI had written to the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) seeking clarity over the future course of action. In a letter addressed to the Director-General and CEO, NADA, the cricketing body had also expressed concern over the previously collected samples by NDTL at BCCI domestic tournaments.”It has come to our attention through media reports that NDTL has been suspended by WADA for a period of six (6) months owing to “non-conformities with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) as identified during a WADA site visit,” BCCI had stated in its letter to NADA.”We request you to kindly let us know how this suspension will affect samples collected by NADA at BCCI Domestic Cricket tournaments. Since NDTL is unable to test the samples of our cricketers, what is the way forward to ensure a strict chain of custody and timely analysis of all samples,” it added. For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
